Proficiencies: Improving Learning in Math, Science,
and World Languages |
Learning in our courses is guided
by standards—the things that students will know, understand, or be able to do. While all standards are important, departments
have identified 10 to 20 foundational standards in some courses that are
critical for success later in that course or in the future. These standards are
called proficiencies, and students will master all of them as they earn credit
for the course.
Proficiencies are assessed on
quizzes and tests every week or two in math and
science and three times a year in world languages. Students get continued
opportunities to demonstrate their learning even if it takes longer than
planned for that unit. Teachers will not give up on students and just move on,
and students will not be allowed to give up on themselves.

Checking Student Progress
For math and science courses you have
two options.
1.
Log in to Campus Portal and select your
student, click on Reports on the left of your screen, choose the report called
Proficiency Reports, and then follow the link to see progress in each of the
student’s courses.
2.
Type the
address directly into your web browser. Use the format below, but replace
“Algebra1” with your course name (no spaces), and replace
“123456” with your student ID number.
